Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

As opposed to traditional inflammatory treatments that have low success rates, Dr. Benson and his staff have adopted Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy to treat damaged tendons, ligaments, and other painful areas.

The process involves drawing blood from a patient, similarly to a standard blood test, and then spinning such blood in a special centrifuge that increases the concentration of platelets in the blood before injecting the platelet concentration back into the patientŐs damaged or pain-filled tissue.

While the injection lasts only a matter of minutes, the entire treatment lasts for around forty minutes, with one to three treatments occurring once every six weeks until the damaged area is restored. There is a period of soreness after each treatment and patients are encouraged to not take anti-inflammatory medications.

Platelet Rich Plasma therapy, or PRP, is successful due to the nature of platelets being incredibly rich in natural growth factors that enhance tissue repair. This makes the therapy useful for several areas, including:

  • Knee Pain
  • Tennis elbow
  • Rotator Cuff
  • Achilles Tendon
  • Muscle Tears
  • Ligament Tears
  • Carpel Tunnel Syndrome
  • Joint Pain

There is also a significant benefit to the use of PRP in the cosmetic field, as it can be used to aid:

  • Face Lifts
  • Breast Augmentations
  • Breast Reductions
  • Neck Lifts
  • Tummy Tucks
  • Laser Resurfacing
  • Liposculpture
  • Skin Rejuvenation
  • Gynecologic Surgery
